The 15-5PH stainless is a refinement of the 17-4PH, which was developed in the 1960s. This finer structure was achieved by the remelting procedure. The delicate construction increases the toughness. The material has good manufacturing performance and corrosion resistance. It can be processed either in the solution annealing stage or the final heat-treatment state. Heat treatment at different temperatures improves the strength and ductility.
Any conditions are acceptable for processing 15-5PH. The alloy must first be slightly formed under averaging. It is then weld using techniques such as protection fusion or resistance method. The material was heated at 1038degC (1900degF), then cooled with air for 1/2 hour. It is then followed by annealing the alloy at 1038degC for 1 hour and cold working.
